Where we will be
Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park (BKNP) is located in the heart of the Lesser Caucasus mountain range. Its diverse forests include rare, endemic species of chestnut, oak and yew. BKNP is home to wolves, bears and lynx. Golden eagles and Griffon vultures are just two of the park’s important bird species and there are also more than 100 species of butterflies, including the endemic and endangered Parnassius nordmanni.
What we’ll do
We will be doing mostly horse riding and trekking. Our overnight stop will be the tourist shelter of Lomismta. The next day, we will continue to hike to the top of Lomismta (2,198m above sea level). Weather permitting, it is possible to see the highest peak of the Great Caucasus and Europe – Ialbuzi. We will visit St. George church located on Lomismta. In May and June, the flourishing rhododendrons make this hike astounding.
The first part of the trail goes along subalpine meadows and runs down the Colchic sub-tropical forest zone during the second half of the day. We will climb from 800 meters above sea level to a ranger shelter above 1900 meters, providing a dramatic, 360-degree view.
