Dmanisi and Bolnisi Tour
Where we will be
We will visit the Lower Kartli – Sioni of Bolnisi Cathedral, Tsugrugasheni Cathedral and Dmanisi archaeological site.
Sioni of Bolnisi Cathedral built in 478-493. It is the oldest extant church building in Georgia. Its capitals and columns are decorated with geometric carvings and pictures of birds and animals. Bolnisi Sioni has Georgia's most ancient inscriptions dating from the late 5th century.
Tsugrugasheni Cathedral (13th c) – high-domed church with ten windows in the drum of the dome, notable for rich ornaments.
Dmanisi archaeological site. Dmanisi was an important city from early medieval times. The caravan routes to Byzantium, Armenia and Persia converged. Here in 1999 two Hominid Crania were discovered. The discovery demonstrates that Dmanisi Hominids are the oldest human beings outside of Africa.
